Context of Luke 21:7
5Some ⌞of the disciples⌟ were talking about the temple complex. They noted that it was built with fine stones and decorated with beautiful gifts. So Jesus said, 6“About these buildings that you see—the time will come when not one of these stones will be left on top of another. Each one will be torn down.” The disciples asked him, “Teacher, when will this happen? What will be the sign when all this will occur?” 8Jesus said, “Be careful that you are not deceived. Many will come using my name. They will say, ‘I am he!’ and ‘The time is near.’ Don’t follow them! 9“When you hear of wars and revolutions, don’t be terrified! These things must happen first, but the end will not come immediately.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 5-28Verses 5-28 With much curiosity those about Christ ask as to the time when the great desolation should be. He answers with clearness and fulness, as far as was necessary to teach them their duty; for all knowledge is desirable as far as it is in order to practice. Though spiritual judgements are the most common in gospel times, yet God makes use of temporal judgments also. Christ tells them what hard things they should suffer for his name's sake, and…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-38When Jesus predicted the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, his disciples asked when it would happen and what signs would accompany it (21:6,7). Jesus responded by describing the events surrounding the destruction of the temple and the return of the Son of Man (21:8–36). This sermon is known as the Olivet Discourse because the Mount of Olives was where Jesus taught (see Matthew 24:3; Mark 13:3).Read the comment
