Context of John 11:29
27Martha said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who was expected to come into the world.” 28After Martha had said this, she went back home and whispered to her sister Mary, “The teacher is here, and he is calling for you.” When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to Jesus. 30(Jesus had not yet come into the village but was still where Martha had met him.) 31The Jews who were comforting Mary in the house saw her get up quickly and leave. So they followed her. They thought that she was going to the tomb to cry.

Grace will keep sorrow from the heart, but not from the house. When God, by his grace and providence, is coming towards us in ways of mercy and comfort, we should, like Martha, go forth by faith, hope, and prayer, to meet him. When Martha went to meet Jesus, Mary sat still in the house; this temper formerly had been an advantage…Read the comment
