Context of Romans 15:28
26Some of them are poor, and the Christians in Macedonia and Achaia wanted to help them. So they got some money to send to those people. 27The Christians in Macedonia and Achaia were happy to share what they had. But really, they have a duty to help the Jewish Christians in Jerusalem. It is the Jews who shared good things from God to help the Gentiles in their spirits. So now the Gentiles ought to help the Jewish Christians with things that they need for their bodies. So I must take their gift safely to the Christians in Jerusalem. When I have finished that job, I will come to visit you. Then I will continue my journey to Spain. 29When I visit you, I know that Christ will bless us very much while we are together. 30My Christian friends, please pray for me as I do this difficult work. Together we belong to our Lord Jesus Christ. God's Spirit has given us love for each other. So I ask you to help me and to pray with me.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28When, therefore, I have performed this - Service, and have sealed - faithfully delivered up, to them this fruit, of the success of my ministry and of your conversion to God, I will come by you into Spain: this was in his desire; he had fully purposed it, if God should see meet to permit him; but it does not appear that he ever went. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 28Have sealed to them - That is, have “secured it” to them. To seal an instrument of writing, a contract, deed, etc. is to “authenticate it,” to make it “sure.” In this sense it is used here. Paul was going himself to see that it was placed “securely” in their hands. This fruit - This result of the liberality of the Gentile churches - the fruit which their benevolence had produced. I will come - This was Paul‘s full purpose; but it is not clear that he…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-29Verses 22-29 The apostle sought the things of Christ more than his own will, and would not leave his work of planting churches to go to Rome. It concerns all to do that first which is most needful. We must not take it ill if our friends prefer work which is pleasing to God, before visits and compliments, which may please us. It is justly expected from all Christians, that they should promote every good work, especially that blessed work, the conversion of…Read the comment
