Context of Psalms 31:13
11All my enemies hate me. My friends insult me. Everyone who knows me is afraid of me. They run away when they see me in the street. 12Everybody has forgotten about me. I might as well be dead! They think that I am useless, like a broken plate. I hear what many people are saying against me. News from everywhere makes me afraid. They are deciding together how to kill me. 14But I continue to trust you, Lord. I say, ‘You are my God!’ 15You are the one who decides what will happen to me in my whole life. Save me from the power of my enemies and from the people who want to catch me.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13For I have heard the slander of many - The reproach; the false accusations; the unjust aspersions. We are here more definitely informed as to another of the sources of the trouble that came upon him. It was “slander.” He had already referred to “two” sources of trouble; one Psalm 31:11 that he was “reproached” by his friends and neighbors, and that his society was shunned by them; a second, that he was “forgotten” by those who ought to have remembered…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-18Verses 9-18 David's troubles made him a man of sorrows. Herein he was a type of Christ, who was acquainted with grief.
