Context of Psalms 31:12
10I am near to death, because I am so sad. I am crying with pain as my life comes to an end. I have so much trouble that I have no strength at all. Even my bones have become weak. 11All my enemies hate me. My friends insult me. Everyone who knows me is afraid of me. They run away when they see me in the street. Everybody has forgotten about me. I might as well be dead! They think that I am useless, like a broken plate. 13I hear what many people are saying against me. News from everywhere makes me afraid. They are deciding together how to kill me. 14But I continue to trust you, Lord. I say, ‘You are my God!’

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind - Like the man who is dead, and who has passed away from the recollection of mankind. Compare Psalm 88:4-5. The Hebrew is, “as a dead man from the heart;” that is, from the memory or recollection of men, so as to be no more remembered; no more regarded. The expression is nearly the same in meaning as our common English proverb: “out of sight, out of mind.” The allusion is to the fact that a man who is dead is soon…Read the comment
