We are all to try to do our duty where we are. If in sickness, we must not repine, for we are in the Lord’s hands. He is working for our good, even in suffering and weakness. God desires you to look unto Jesus. He is your spiritual efficiency, and His grace is working within you to perfect His image in you both. The Lord is developing His own Spirit in you, and His heavenly grace will increase your capacity to work with Jesus. You can both say, I have trusted Him. “Thou hast set my feet in a large place.” [Psalm 31:8.]Psalms 31:10

There is not one vestige of the Holy Spirit’s working in this experience, which has led to such results. I have no controversy with Elder McCullagh. My life mission is before the world. It is not my work; it is the Lord’s work. I take no credit to myself, for the Lord will deliver me from the “strife of tongues.” [Psalm 31:20.] “By their fruits ye shall know them.” [Matthew 7:20.]Psalms 31:22

The power of the enemy is increasing. He is coming down with great power and is working with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish. But God will not allow those who trust in Him to be overcome by the power of Satan. Let each believer lay his hand in the hand of Jesus, saying, “Lead me and guide me.” [Psalm 31:3.] If we commit the keeping of our souls unto Him as unto a faithful Creator, He will keep that which we have committed unto Him “against that day.” [2 Timothy 1:12.] He will protect us against Satan’s devices. He will shelter us from the storms of temptation.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 6 (1889-1890)

I want so much that you should stand forth unto honor as God’s chosen vessels. You are both very near my heart, and when I hear of your success, I am glad. But my only fear is that you will not keep the heart steadily fixed upon the Author and Finisher of your faith, that your hands will not always be placed in the hand of Jesus Christ, the language of your heart being, “Lord, lead me, guide me.” [Psalm 31:3.] Foes are constantly around you.
