Context of Psalms 31:12
10For my life is spent with sorrow And my years with sighing; My strength has failed because of my iniquity, And even my body has wasted away. 11Because of all my enemies I have become a reproach and disgrace, Especially to my neighbors, And an object of dread to my acquaintances; Those who see me on the street run from me. I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel. 13For I have heard the slander and whispering of many, Terror is on every side; While they schemed together against me, They plotted to take away my life. 14But as for me, I trust [confidently] in You and Your greatness, O Lord; I said, “You are my God.”

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind - Like the man who is dead, and who has passed away from the recollection of mankind. Compare Psalm 88:4-5. The Hebrew is, “as a dead man from the heart;” that is, from the memory or recollection of men, so as to be no more remembered; no more regarded. The expression is nearly the same in meaning as our common English proverb: “out of sight, out of mind.” The allusion is to the fact that a man who is dead is soon…Read the comment

Let us not think it strange if thus deserted, but make sure of a Friend in heaven who will not fail. God will be sure to order and dispose all for the best, to all those who commit their…Read the comment
