Context of Isaiah 38:11
9When Hezekiah became better from his disease, he wrote this song: 10I thought that I might die in the middle of my life. I thought that I would go into the deep hole of death, before I had lived all the years of my life. I thought, ‘I will not see the Lord again, while I live in this world. I will no longer see the people who live in the world. I will no longer live among them.’ 12My home here has gone, as easily as they pull down a shepherd's tent. God has cut off my life, like a piece of cloth that they have just made. They cut it off and they roll it up. As quickly as day becomes night, God brings my life to an end. 13I waited until morning would come. It seemed like God was breaking all my bones, like a lion does. As quickly as day becomes night, God brings my life to an end.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11The Lord "Jehovah" - יה Yah, יה Yah, seems to be יהוה Yehovah, in MS. Bodl., and it was so at first written in another. So the Syriac. See Houbigant. I believe יהוה Yehovah was the original reading. See the note on Isaiah 12:2; (note).Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11I shall not see the Lord - In the original, the Hebrew which is rendered Lord,‘ is not Yahweh, but יה יה yâhh yâhh On the meaning of it, see the note at Isaiah 12:2 (compare the note at Isaiah 7:14). The repetition of the name here denotes emphasis or intensity of feeling - the deep desire which he had to see Yahweh in the land of the living, and the intense sorrow of his heart at the idea of being cut off from that privilege. The idea here is, that…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-22Verses 9-22 We have here Hezekiah's thanksgiving. It is well for us to remember the mercies we receive in sickness. Hezekiah records the condition he was in. He dwells upon this; I shall no more see the Lord. A good man wishes not to live for any other end than that he may serve God, and have communion with him. Our present residence is like that of a shepherd in his hut, a poor, mean, and cold lodging, and with a trust committed to our charge, as the…Read the comment
