Context of Psalms 104:30
28When you give it to them, they take it. You open your hand to feed them, and they have plenty of good things. 29When you turn away from them, they become very afraid. When you take away their breath, they die and they return to the dust. But when you breathe into anything, it receives life. In that way, you bring new life to the earth. 31I pray that the glory of the Lord will continue for ever! I pray that the Lord will be happy with everything that he has made! 32When he looks down at the earth, it shakes! When he touches the mountains, they pour out smoke!

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created - יבראון yibbareun, "They are created again." And thou renewest the face of the earth - Do not these words plainly imply a resurrection of the bodies which have died, been dissolved, or turned to dust? And is not the brute creation principally intended here? Is it not on this account it is said, Psalm 104:31, "the glory of the Lord shall endure for ever, (לעולם leolam )," to be manifest in those times which…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 30Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created - That is, New races are created in their place, or start up as if they were created directly by God. They derive their being from him as really as those did which were first formed by his hand, and the work of creation is constantly going on. And thou renewest the face of the earth - The earth is not suffered to become desolate. Though one generation passes off, yet a new one is made in its place, and the…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 19-30Verses 19-30 We are to praise and magnify God for the constant succession of day and night. And see how those are like to the wild beasts, who wait for the twilight, and have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. Does God listen to the language of mere nature, even in ravenous creatures, and shall he not much more interpret favourably the language of grace in his own people, though weak and broken groanings which cannot be uttered? There is…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 29-30When You send Your Spirit: Life on earth is only possible as the Lord’s gift, symbolized by his breath (Hebrew ruakh, which means "breath, wind, or spirit"). The Lord’s Spirit is the agent of renewal (Isaiah 32:15–20).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 27-3027-30. The entire dependence of this immense family on God is set forth. With Him, to kill or make alive is equally easy. To hide His face is to withdraw favor (Psa 13:1). By His spirit, or breath, or mere word, He gives life. It is His constant providence which repairs the wastes of time and disease.Read the comment
