Context of Isaiah 32:14
12Weep and hit your breasts, because your good fields have no crops, and your vines have no grapes. 13Weep because of what has happened to my people's land. Only thorn bushes and weeds grow there. Weep because there are no longer any happy homes. There are no more parties in the city. Nobody will remain in the king's great palace. The city that is now full of people will be empty. The city's hill and its strong buildings will become heaps of stones for ever. Wild donkeys will play in those places, and sheep will find grass to eat. 15It will be like that until God pours a new spirit on us from heaven. Then, deserts will become fields of fruit trees. And fields of fruit trees will seem like forests. 16Everywhere, people will be honest and fair, in the deserts as well as in the fields.

The forts "Ophel" - It was a part of Mount Zion, rising higher than the rest, at the eastern extremity, near to the temple, a little to the south of it; called by Micah, Micah 4:8, "Ophel of the daughter of Zion. "It was naturally strong by its situation; and had a wall of its own, by which it was separated from the rest of Zion.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14Because the palaces shall be forsaken - That is, the palaces in the cities and towns which Sennacherib would lay waste. Or, if it refers, as Lowth supposes, to the invasion of the land in the time of the Chaldeans, then it relates to the palaces in Jerusalem. Vitringa supposes that the temple at Jerusalem is particularly designated by the word rendered palaces. But that is not the usual word to denote the temlple, and it is not necessary to suppose that…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-20Verses 9-20 When there was so much provocation given to the holy God, bad times might be expected. Alas! how many careless ones there are, who support self-indulgence by shameful niggardliness! We deserve to be deprived of the supports of life, when we make them the food of lusts. Let such tremble and be troubled. Blessed times shall be brought in by the pouring out of the Spirit from on high; then, and not till then, there will be good times. The present…Read the comment

Address to the women of Jerusalem who troubled themselves little about the political signs of the times, but lived a life of self-indulgence (Is 3:16-23); the failure of food through the devastations of the enemy is here foretold, being what was most likely to affect them as mothers of families, heretofore accustomed to every luxury. Vitringa understands "women--daughters" as the cities and villages of Judea (Eze 16:1-63). See Am 6:1.Read the comment
