Context of Proverbs 28:13
11A rich person thinks that he knows everything. But a poor person who understands people knows what he is really like. 12When righteous people have power, everybody is happy. But when wicked people have power, good people run away to hide. Anyone who hides his sins will never do well. But God will forgive somebody, if he agrees that he has done wrong things, and if he turns away from his sins. 14If you are afraid to do wrong things, God will bless you. But trouble will happen to anyone who refuses to obey. 15A wicked ruler brings danger to poor people. He is as dangerous as an angry lion or a hungry bear.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13He that covereth his sins - Here is a general direction relative to conversion. If the sinner do not acknowledge his sins; if he cover and excuse them, and refuse to come to the light of God's word and Spirit, lest his deeds should be reproved, he shall find no salvation. God will never admit a sinful, unhumbled soul, into his kingdom. 2. But if he confess his sin, with a penitent and broken heart, and, by forsaking every evil way, give this proof that he…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13Verse 13 It is folly to indulge sin, and excuse it. He who covers his sins, shall not have any true peace. He who humbly confesses his sins, with true repentance and faith, shall find mercy from God. The Son of God is our great atonement. Under a deep sense of our guilt and danger, we may claim salvation from that mercy which reigns through righteousness unto eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord.Read the comment
