Context of Proverbs 28:13
11Rich people may think they are wise, but a poor person with discernment can see right through them. 12When the godly succeed, everyone is glad. When the wicked take charge, people go into hiding. People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. 14Blessed are those who fear to do wrong, but the stubborn are headed for serious trouble. 15A wicked ruler is as dangerous to the poor as a roaring lion or an attacking bear.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13He that covereth his sins - Here is a general direction relative to conversion. If the sinner do not acknowledge his sins; if he cover and excuse them, and refuse to come to the light of God's word and Spirit, lest his deeds should be reproved, he shall find no salvation. God will never admit a sinful, unhumbled soul, into his kingdom. 2. But if he confess his sin, with a penitent and broken heart, and, by forsaking every evil way, give this proof that he…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13Verse 13 It is folly to indulge sin, and excuse it. He who covers his sins, shall not have any true peace. He who humbly confesses his sins, with true repentance and faith, shall find mercy from God. The Son of God is our great atonement. Under a deep sense of our guilt and danger, we may claim salvation from that mercy which reigns through righteousness unto eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord.Read the comment
