Context of Mark 13:3
1Then Jesus left the temple. While he was leaving, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Teacher, look at these great buildings! The stones in the walls of God's House are really great!’ 2Jesus said to him, ‘Yes, look at all these large buildings! But I tell you, enemies will completely destroy them. Not even one stone will remain on top of another stone.’ After that, Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives. He could look across the valley at the temple. Peter, James, John and Andrew went together to talk with him. The crowd was not there. 4They said to Jesus, ‘Please tell us when all these things will happen. What will show us that they will soon happen?’ 5Jesus began to say to them, ‘Be careful! Some people will tell you things that are not true. Do not believe those people.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3-4Andrew appeared here with the trio, Peter, James, and John (5:37; 9:2; 14:33) completing the two sets of brothers (1:16–20; 3:16–18). The prediction of Jesus inspired two questions from the disciples. Although some scholars argue that the second question goes beyond the first in looking to the coming of the Son of Man at the end of the age, it is best to interpret these two questions as focusing on the time and the sign associated with the destruction of…Read the comment

And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, over against the temple--On their way from Jerusalem to Bethany they would cross Mount Olivet; on its summit He seats Himself, over against the temple, having the city all spread out under His eye. How graphically is this set before us by our Evangelist! Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately--The other Evangelists tell us merely that "the disciples" did so. But Mark not only says that it was…Read the comment
