Context of Mark 13:17
15A person who is on the roof of his house must not go down into the house. He must not stop to get anything from his home. 16A person who is outside in his field must not go back to his home. He must not return even to fetch his coat. That will be a bad time for women who are soon to have a baby. It will also be a bad time for those women who have little babies. 18You must pray to God that this time of trouble will not happen in winter. 19Very bad troubles will happen to people at that time and cause them a lot of pain. Nothing as bad has ever happened before, since God created the world. Nothing as bad will ever happen again.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-23Verses 14-23 The Jews in rebelling against the Romans, and in persecuting the Christians, hastened their own ruin apace. Here we have a prediction of that ruin which came upon them within less than forty years after this. Such destruction and desolation, that the like cannot be found in any history. Promises of power to persevere, and cautions against falling away, well agree with each other. But the more we consider these things, the more we shall see…Read the comment
