Context of John 6:33
31Our ancestors ate manna in the wilderness. We know that it says in the Bible, “God gave bread to them from heaven for them to eat.” ’ 32Jesus said to them, ‘I tell you this: It was not Moses who gave bread to you from heaven. No. It is my Father who gives to you the true bread from heaven. God's bread is the one who comes down from heaven. He is the one who gives life to people in the world.’ 34So they said to him, ‘Sir, please give this bread to us now and always.’ 35Then Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread that gives life to people. Anyone who comes to me will never be hungry. Anyone who believes in me will never be thirsty.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-35Verses 28-35 Constant exercise of faith in Christ, is the most important and difficult part of the obedience required from us, as sinners seeking salvation. When by his grace we are enabled to live a life of faith in the Son of God, holy tempers follow, and acceptable services may be done. God, even his Father, who gave their fathers that food from heaven to support their natural lives, now gave them the true Bread for the salvation of their souls. Coming…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 32-33Jesus corrected the people's argument: God, not Moses, fed Israel in the wilderness. The most important goal in life is to seek the true bread from God. This bread is not ordinary food. It is the gift that gives eternal life. To “eat” this bread means to believe in Jesus and depend on him. Those who receive this bread share in the life that comes from God and lasts forever.Read the comment
