Context of Isaiah 32:16
14Nobody will remain in the king's great palace. The city that is now full of people will be empty. The city's hill and its strong buildings will become heaps of stones for ever. Wild donkeys will play in those places, and sheep will find grass to eat. 15It will be like that until God pours a new spirit on us from heaven. Then, deserts will become fields of fruit trees. And fields of fruit trees will seem like forests. Everywhere, people will be honest and fair, in the deserts as well as in the fields. 17People will do things that are right, so there will be peace. People will always be safe. 18My people will live safely and quietly in their homes. They will not be afraid of trouble.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-20Verses 9-20 When there was so much provocation given to the holy God, bad times might be expected. Alas! how many careless ones there are, who support self-indulgence by shameful niggardliness! We deserve to be deprived of the supports of life, when we make them the food of lusts. Let such tremble and be troubled. Blessed times shall be brought in by the pouring out of the Spirit from on high; then, and not till then, there will be good times. The present…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 9-209-20. Address to the women of Jerusalem who troubled themselves little about the political signs of the times, but lived a life of self-indulgence (Is 3:16-23); the failure of food through the devastations of the enemy is here foretold, being what was most likely to affect them as mothers of families, heretofore accustomed to every luxury. Vitringa understands "women--daughters" as the cities and villages of Judea (Eze 16:1-63). See Am 6:1.Read the comment
