Hebrews 10:8
8So think about what Christ said there. First he said to God, ‘You have not wanted gifts and sacrifices of animals. Any kind of sacrifice like that does not make you happy.’ But we know that Moses' rules taught about those sacrifices. God's law said that they were necessary.

Context of Hebrews 10:8
6Sacrifices do not make you happy. If people burn whole animals as a sacrifice, or if they offer a sacrifice to make them clean from their sins, that does not make you happy. 7Then I said, “Here I am, my God. I have come to do what you want. That is what it says about me in the Bible.” ’ So think about what Christ said there. First he said to God, ‘You have not wanted gifts and sacrifices of animals. Any kind of sacrifice like that does not make you happy.’ But we know that Moses' rules taught about those sacrifices. God's law said that they were necessary. 9Then Christ said, ‘Here I am. I have come to do what you want.’ In that way, Christ took away the first agreement and its rules about sacrifices. Christ's sacrifice of his own body is the new way that God forgives our sins. 10Jesus Christ was ready to do what God wanted. He offered his own body to God once, for all time. Because of Christ's sacrifice, God has made us clean so that we belong to him.

Commentaries on Hebrews 10:8
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8Above when he said - That is, the Messiah. The word “above” refers here to the former part of the quotation. That is, “having in the former part of what was quoted said that God did not require sacrifices, in the latter part he says that he came to do the will of God in the place of them.” Sacrifice and offering, and burnt-offerings - These words are not all used in the Psalm from which the apostle quotes, but the idea is, that the specification there…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-10The author of Hebrews carefully follows the order of thought in the psalm. In the passage above He says, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire…": The author of Hebrews sees this as God rejecting the old system of sacrifices. Then He adds, “Here I am, I have come to do Your will.”: The author of Hebrews interprets this as Christ's willingness to be the ultimate sacrifice for sins. The author of Hebrews concludes…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. he--Christ. Sacrifice, &c.--The oldest manuscripts read, "Sacrifices and offerings" (plural). This verse combines the two clauses previously quoted distinctly, He 10:5, 6, in contrast to the sacrifice of Christ with which God was well pleased.Read the comment
