Context of Deuteronomy 33:11
9The Levites left their own families so that they could serve you well. They obeyed your word. They were faithful to your covenant. 10They teach your rules and your laws to Jacob's descendants, the Israelites. They offer incense to you, as a sweet smell. They burn offerings on your altar. Lord, please bless their work. May everything that they do give you pleasure. Knock down anyone who attacks them. Destroy all their enemies completely. 12I pray this for the tribe of Benjamin: The Lord loves the tribe of Benjamin. They will live with him and they will be safe. The Lord protects them all the time. He keeps them near to him. 13I pray this for the tribe of Joseph: Lord, please bless their land. Send rain from the sky above, and springs of water from under the ground.

Commentaries on Deuteronomy 33:11
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11Bless, Lord, his substance - The blessing of God to the tribe of Levi was peculiarly necessary, because they had no inheritance among the children of Israel, and lived more immediately than others upon the providence of God. Yet, as they lived by the offerings of the people and the tithes, the increase of their substance necessarily implied the increase of the people at large: the more fruitful the land was, the more abundant would the tithes of the…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-23Verses 6-23 The order in which the tribes are here blessed, is not the same as is observed elsewhere. The blessing of Judah may refer to the whole tribe in general, or to David as a type of Christ. Moses largely blesses the tribe of Levi. Acceptance with God is what we should all aim at, and desire, in all our devotions, whether men accept us or not, 2Co 5:9. This prayer is a prophecy, that God will keep up a ministry in his church to the end of time. The…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-29On the day before he died, Jacob blessed his 12 sons (Genesis 49:1–28). Many years later, Moses also blessed these same sons. By that time, they had become large and powerful tribes. Moses, like Jacob, spoke as a founding father of the nation.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-281. Moses the man of God--This was a common designation of a prophet (1Sa 2:27; 9:6), and it is here applied to Moses, when, like Jacob, he was about to deliver ministerially before his death, a prophetic benediction to Israel.Read the comment
