Context of Acts 9:30
28After that, Saul stayed with the apostles. He went everywhere in Jerusalem and he bravely taught people the message about the Lord Jesus. 29Saul also talked with the Jews who spoke the Greek language. He argued with them about Jesus. As a result, they wanted to kill him. The other believers heard about this. So they took Saul away to Caesarea. From there, they sent him to Tarsus. 31By this time there were believers everywhere in Judea, Galilee and Samaria. For some time they had no troubles. The Holy Spirit helped them to become strong. So more people became believers, and they obeyed God in everything that they did. 32Peter often travelled to many different places. One day he travelled to Lydda, and he went to see the believers there.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30They brought him down to Caesarea - Calmet contends that this was Caesarea of Palestine, and not Caesarea Philippi; it being his opinion, and indeed that of others, that where this word occurs without any addition, in the New Testament, Caesarea of Palestine is meant, and not Caesarea Philippi. See on Acts 8:40; (note). Sent him forth to Tarsus - This was his own city; and it was right that he should proclaim to his own countrymen and relatives that…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 23-31Verses 23-31 When we enter into the way of God, we must look for trials; but the Lord knows how to deliver the godly, and will, with the temptation, also make a way to escape. Though Saul's conversion was and is a proof of the truth of Christianity, yet it could not, of itself, convert one soul at enmity with the truth; for nothing can produce true faith, but that power which new-creates the heart.
