Context of Acts 18:11
9But one night, the Lord appeared to Paul in a vision. He said, ‘Do not be afraid of those people who are against you. Continue to speak my message to the people here. Do not stop speaking to them. 10I am here with you. Nobody will hurt you. There are many people in this city who will believe in me.’ So Paul stayed in Corinth for 18 months and he taught the people God's message about Jesus. 12Gallio then became the Roman ruler of the region called Achaia. At this time the Jewish leaders in Corinth decided together to speak against Paul. So they took hold of him and they brought him to Gallio. They wanted Gallio to judge Paul. 13The Jewish leaders said to Gallio, ‘This man is teaching people to worship God in a wrong way. The things that he teaches are against our Jewish law.’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11He continued there a year and six months - He was now confident that he was under the especial protection of God, and therefore continued teaching the word, , the doctrine of God. It is very likely, that it was during his stay here that he wrote his first epistle to the Thessalonians, and the second not long after; and some think that the epistle to the Galatians was written during his stay at Corinth.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11And he continued - Paul was not accustomed to remain long in a place. At Ephesus, indeed, he remained three years Acts 20:31; and his stay at Corinth was caused by his success, and by the necessity of placing a church, collected out of such corrupt and dissolute materials, on a firm foundation.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-11Verses 7-11 The Lord knows those that are his, yea, and those that shall be his; for it is by his work upon them that they become his. Let us not despair concerning any place, when even in wicked Corinth Christ had much people. He will gather in his chosen flock from the places where they are scattered Thus encouraged, the apostle continued at Corinth, and a numerous and flourishing church grew up.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-17Paul spent 18 productive months preaching and teaching in Corinth. He started in the synagogue and then moved next door to the house of Titius Justus (18:1–11). Then Paul won an important case in court against his opponents (18:12–17).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 9-119-11. Then spake the Lord to Paul ... by a vision, Be not afraid ... no man shall set on thee to hurt thee, &c.--From this it would seem that these signal successes were stirring up the wrath of the unbelieving Jews, and probably the apostle feared being driven by violence, as before, from this scene of such promising labor. He is reassured, however, from above.Read the comment
