Context of 1 Corinthians 1:12
10My Christian friends, I tell you this with the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ: ‘Please agree with each other. Do not become separate groups. Be united and think about things in the same way.’ 11Some people from Chloe's house have told me news about you. My friends, they say that you are quarrelling among yourselves. It happens like this: One of you says, ‘I belong to Paul's group.’ Another person says, ‘I belong to Apollos's group.’ Another person says, ‘I belong to Peter's group.’ And another person says, ‘I belong to Christ's group.’ 13You should not speak like that! It seems that you are breaking Christ into several parts. I, Paul, did not die on a cross to save you. When they baptized you, it was not on my behalf. 14I thank God that I myself did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12Every one of you saith - It seems from this expression that the whole Church at Corinth was in a state of dissension: they were all divided into the following sects Paulians, or followers of St. Paul; Apollonians, or followers of Apollos; Kephians, or followers of Kephas; Christians, or followers of Christ. See the Introduction, Section 5. The converts at Corinth were partly Jews and partly Greeks. The Gentile part, as Dr. Lightfoot conjectures, might…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Now this I say - This is what I mean; or, I give this as an instance of the contentions to which I refer. That every one of you saith - That you are divided into different factions, and ranged under different leaders. The word translated “that” ̔́ hotimight be translated here, “because,” or “since,” as giving a reason for his affirming 1 Corinthians 1:11 that there were contentions there. “Now I say that there are contentions, because you are ranged under…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-16Verses 10-16 In the great things of religion be of one mind; and where there is not unity of sentiment, still let there be union of affection. Agreement in the greater things should extinguish divisions about the lesser. There will be perfect union in heaven, and the nearer we approach it on earth, the nearer we come to perfection. Paul and Apollos both were faithful ministers of Jesus Christ, and helpers of their faith and joy; but those disposed to be…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12The Christians in Corinth had formed groups loyal to different leaders, but the leaders themselves did not seem to be in conflict. Apollos, now with Paul (see 1 Corinthians 16:12), was an eloquent Jew from Alexandria who became a powerful Christian evangelist and ministered in Corinth (see Acts 18:24–19:1). He attracted followers due to his skillful speaking and ability to…Read the comment

Not that they formed definite parties, but they individually betrayed the spirit of party in contentions under the name of different favorite teachers.
