Context of Psalms 85:8
6Wilt thou not revive us again, that thy people may rejoice in thee? 7Shew us thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, and grant us thy salvation. I will hear what God, Jehovah, will speak; for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his godly ones: but let them not turn again to folly. 9Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. 10Loving-kindness and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other:

Commentaries on Psalms 85:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8I will hear what God the Lord will speak - The psalmist goes as a prophet to consult the Lord; and, having made his request, waits an answer from the spirit of prophecy. He is satisfied that the answer will be gracious; and having received it he relates it to the people. He will speak peace - He will give prosperity to the people in general; and to his saints - his followers, in particular. But let them not turn again to folly - Let them not abuse the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8I will hear what God the Lord will speak - I, the psalmist; I, representing the people as looking to God. The state of mind here is that of patient listening; of a willingness to hear God, whatever God should say; of confidence in him that what he would say would be favorable to his people - would be words of mercy and of peace. Whatever God should command, the speaker was willing to yield to it; whatever God should say, he would believe; whatever God…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-13Verses 8-13 Sooner or later, God will speak peace to his people. All sin is folly, especially backsliding; it is the greatest folly to return to sin. Surely God's salvation is nigh, whatever our difficulties and distresses are. Also, his honour is secured, that glory may dwell in our land. And the…Read the comment
