Context of Mark 9:5
3and his garments became shining, exceeding white [as snow], such as fuller on earth could not whiten [them]. 4And there appeared to them Elias with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answering says to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good that we should be here; and let us make three tabernacles, for thee one, and for Moses one, and for Elias one. 6For he knew not what he should say, for they were filled with fear. 7And there came a cloud overshadowing them, and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2-10Verses 2-10 And after six days - See this passage explained in the notes at Matthew 17:1-9. Mark 9:3 No fuller - Rather, no “scourer.” The office of the person here mentioned was to “scour” or “whiten” cloth; not to “full” it, or to render it thicker. Mark 9:6 He wist not - He “knew not.” He was desirous of saying something, and he knew not what would be proper.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-6The idea to put up three shelters as memorials treats Moses, Elijah, and Jesus as equals (see Leviticus 23:33–43; Numbers 29:12–34). But this idea ignored Peter’s earlier confession that Jesus is the Messiah (Mark 8:29). It also ignored that only Jesus had been transfigured (his appearance changed and showed his glory, 9:2–3).Read the comment
