Context of 1 Chronicles 11:2
1And all Israel assembled themselves to David to Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh. Even aforetime, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel; and Jehovah thy God said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over my people Israel. 3And all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah; and they anointed David king over Israel according to the word of Jehovah through Samuel. 4And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-3David first became king of Judah in Hebron and ruled there for seven and a half years (1 Chronicles 3:4; 2 Samuel 5:5). The Chronicler does not include the details of that time (see 2 Samuel 2–4) and instead focuses on David’s 33 and a half years ruling the entire nation. This began with his agreement with all the elders of Israel at Hebron (see 2 Samuel 5:1–5).Read the comment
