Context of Obadiah 1:15
13Do not enter my people’s city gate in the day of their disaster. Yes, you — do not gloat over their misery in the day of their disaster, and do not appropriate their possessions in the day of their disaster. 14Do not stand at the crossroads to cut off their fugitives, and do not hand over their survivors in the day of distress. For the day of the Lord is near, against all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; what you deserve will return on your own head. 16As you have drunk on my holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually. They will drink and gulp down and be as though they had never been. 17But there will be a deliverance on Mount Zion, and it will be holy; the house of Jacob will dispossess those who dispossessed them.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15For the day of the Lord is near upon all the pagan - The prophet once more enforces his warning by preaching judgment to come. “The day of the Lord” was already known Joel 1:15; Joel 2:1, Joel 2:31, as a day of judgment upon “all nations,” in which God would “judge all the pagan,” especially for their outrages against His people. Edom might hope to escape, were it alone threatened. The prophet announces one great law of God‘s retribution, one rule of His…Read the comment
