Context of Psalms 110:5
3Your people will volunteer on your day of battle. In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, the dew of your youth belongs to you. 4The Lord has sworn an oath and will not take it back: “You are a priest forever according to the pattern of Melchizedek.” The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his anger. 6He will judge the nations, heaping up corpses; he will crush leaders over the entire world. 7He will drink from the brook by the road; therefore, he will lift up his head.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5The Lord at thy right hand - Here Venema thinks the Psalm speaks of David. As Jesus is at the right hand of God, so he will be at thy hand, giving thee all the support and comfort requisite. Shall strike through kings - As he did in the case of Abraham, Genesis 14:1-16, (for to this there seems to be an allusion), where he smote four kings, and filled the pits with the dead bodies of their troops. That the allusion is to the above transaction seems the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5The Lord at thy right hand - See the notes at Psalm 16:8. Shall strike through kings - The Hebrew word here rendered “shall strike,” - from מחץ mâchats - means “to shake, to agitate”; and then, “to shake in pieces, to dash in pieces, to crush”; and here it has the sense of dashing in pieces, smiting, wounding, crushing. The “kings” referred to are the enemies of God and the Messiah, and the idea is that all would be subdued before him; that he would set…Read the comment
