Context of Mark 13:6
4“Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5Jesus told them, “Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and they will deceive many. 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don’t be alarmed; these things must take place, but it is not yet the end. 8For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 5-13Verses 5-13 Our Lord Jesus, in reply to the disciples' question, does not so much satisfy their curiosity as direct their consciences. When many are deceived, we should thereby be awakened to look to ourselves. And the disciples of Christ, if it be not their own fault, may enjoy holy security and peace of mind, when all around is in disorder. But they must take heed that they are not drawn away from Christ and their duty to him, by the sufferings they…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-6Jesus warned his followers not to be deceived by false messiahs. Many people would come claiming, ‘I am He,’ and would lead many others astray. These people claimed either to be the long-awaited Jewish Messiah or to speak with the Messiah’s authority. Some examples include Theudas the Galilean (Acts 5:36), Simon, the son of Gioras, and John of Gischala, who tricked many people in the AD 60s.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ--(see Mt 24:5)--"and the time draweth nigh" (Lu 21:8); that is, the time of the kingdom in its full splendor. and shall deceive many--"Go ye not therefore after them" (Lu 21:8). The reference here seems not to be to pretended Messiahs, deceiving those who rejected the claims of Jesus, of whom indeed there were plenty--for our Lord is addressing His own genuine disciples--but to persons pretending to…Read the comment
