Context of Luke 6:31
29If anyone hits you on the cheek, offer the other also. And if anyone takes away your coat, don’t hold back your shirt either. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and from someone who takes your things, don’t ask for them back. Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them. 32If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33If you do what is good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 20-49Verses 20-49 See this passage fully illustrated in the sermon on the mount, in Luke 6:21 That hunger now - Matthew has it, “that hunger and thirst after righteousness.” Matthew has expressed more fully what Luke has briefly, but there is no contradiction. Luke 6:24-26 These verses have been omitted by Matthew. They seem to have been spoken to the Pharisees. Who are rich - In this world‘s goods. They loved them; they had sought for them; they found their…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 27-36Verses 27-36 These are hard lessons to flesh and blood. But if we are thoroughly grounded in the faith of Christ's love, this will make his commands easy to us. Every one that comes to him for washing in his blood, and knows the greatness of the mercy and the love there is in him, can say, in truth and sincerity, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? Let us then aim to be merciful, even according to the mercy of our heavenly Father to us.Read the comment
