Context of Job 5:18
16So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth. 17Blessed indeed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. For He wounds, but He also binds; He strikes, but His hands also heal. 19He will rescue you from six calamities; no harm will touch you in seven. 20In famine He will redeem you from death, and in battle from the stroke of the sword.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 18For he maketh sore - That is, he afflicts. And bindeth up - He heals. This was a common mode of healing among the Hebrews; and the practice of medicine appears to have been confined much to external applications. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-27Verses 17-27 Eliphaz gives to Job a word of caution and exhortation: Despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
