Context of Acts 13:34
32And now we proclaim to you the good news: What God promised our fathers 33He has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: ‘You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.’ In fact, God raised Him from the dead, never to see decay. As He has said: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’ 35So also, He says in another Psalm: ‘You will not let Your Holy One see decay.’ 36For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep. His body was buried with his fathers and saw decay.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 34No more to return to corruption - To the grave, to death, the place and state of corruption; for so we should understand the word in the text. The sure mercies of David - ̔ Ϛ . These words are quoted literatim from the Septuagint version of Isaiah 55:3; where the Hebrew is הנאמנים דוד חסדי chasdey David ha -neemanim, of which the Greek is a faithful translation; and which sure mercies of David St. Paul considers as being fulfilled in the resurrection of…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 34And as concerning - In further proof of this. To show that he actually did it, he proceeds to quote another passage of Scripture. No more to return to corruption - The word “corruption” is usually employed to denote “putrefaction, or the mouldering away of a body in the grave; its returning to its native dust.” But it is certain (Acts 13:35. See the notes on Acts 2:27) that the body of Christ never in this sense saw corruption. The word is therefore used…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 32-37Verses 32-37 The resurrection of Christ was the great proof of his being the Son of God. It was not possible he should be held by death, because he was the Son of God, and therefore had life in himself, which he could not lay down but with a design to take it again. The sure mercies of David are that everlasting life, of which the resurrection was a sure pledge; and the blessings of redemption in Christ are a certain earnest, even in this world. David was…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 26-37Paul reviewed how Jesus had been treated with shame, including an unjust sentence and death. But God raised Jesus from the dead, and many witnesses saw him. This message is good news, because through Jesus people can receive forgiveness of sins. But people must respond with faith, or they will face serious consequences.Read the comment

I will give you the sure mercies of David--(Is 55:3). The word rendered "mercies" is peculiar, denoting the sanctity of them, as comprehending the whole riches of the new covenant; while the other word, "sure," points to the certainty with which they would…Read the comment
