Context of 2 Samuel 22:15

13From the brightness of His presence coals of fire blazed forth. 14The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. He shot His arrows and scattered the foes; He hurled lightning and routed them. 16The channels of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the world were exposed at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of His nostrils. 17He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.

Commentaries on 2 Samuel 22:15

• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-20David clearly explains how God listened to him (2 Samuel 22:7). He describes God's rescue as a theophany (a visible sign of God's presence; see study notes on Exodus 19:16–25; Deuteronomy 1:33), which reminds us of God's appearance at Mount Sinai (Exodus 19:16–20; compare Judges 5:4–5).Read the comment
