Context of Micah 4:5
3And He will judge between many peoples And render decisions for strong and distant nations. Then they shall hammer their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning hooks [so that the implements of war may become the tools of agriculture]; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Nor shall they ever again train for war. 4Each of them shall sit [in security and peace] under his vine And under his fig tree, With no one to make them afraid, For the mouth of the [omnipotent] Lord of hosts has spoken it. For all the peoples [now] walk Each in the name of his god [in a transient relationship], As for us, we shall walk [securely] In the name of the Lord our [true] God forever and ever. 6“In that day,” says the Lord, “I shall assemble the lame, And gather the outcasts [from foreign captivity], Even those whom I have caused pain. 7I shall make the lame a [godly] remnant And the outcasts a strong nation; And the Lord shall reign over them in Mount Zion From this time on and forever.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Every one in the name of his god - This shall be the state of the Gentile world; but after the captivity, the Jews walked in the name of Jehovah alone; and acknowledge no other object of religious worship to the present day.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5For all people well walk, every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the Lord our God - Hitherto unsteadfastness had been the very characteristic sin of Israel. It was, “constant only in its inconstancy,” ever “falling away like their forefathers, starting aside like a broken bow” Psalm 78:57. The pagan persevered in their worship, because it was evil or had evil in it, not checking but feeding their passions. Israel did not…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-5Micah's prophecy shifts from deep despair to a burst of hope as he describes the future rise of Mount Zion in Jerusalem. God's plan to bless all nations (Genesis 12:3) through Abraham's descendants will come true when people from all nations gather at the Lord's house to worship. There: they will learn to follow God's laws and teachings; these laws and teachings will spread among the nations as they leave God's house; peace and well-being will grow as…Read the comment

The resolution of the exile Jews is: As Jehovah gives us hope of so glorious a restoration, notwithstanding the overthrow of our temple and nation, we must in confident reliance on His promise persevere in the true worship of Him, however…Read the comment
