Context of Psalms 40:5
3He brought me up out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire. Then He set my feet on a rock. He made my steps firm. 4He put a new song in my mouth— a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and trust in Adonai. Blessed is the one who put his confidence in Adonai, who has not turned to the arrogant, nor to those who fall into falsehood. 6Many things You have done, Adonai my God —Your plans for us are wonderful— there is none to be compared to You! If I were to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to count! 7Sacrifice and offering You did not desire —my ears You have opened— burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Many - are thy wonderful works - The psalmist seems here astonished and confounded at the counsels, loving-kindnesses, and marvellous works of the Lord, not in nature, but in grace; for it was the mercy of God towards himself that he had now particularly in view.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done - literally, “Many (things), O Lord my God, hast thou done; thy wonderful things and thy thoughts toward us, it is not (possible) to state unto thee.” The recollection of the particular kindness shown to the speaker, as referred to in the previous verses, suggests the recollection of the great number of wonders that God had done for his people - the acts of his kindness which it would be…Read the comment
