Context of Luke 9:32
30And behold, two men were talking with Him, Moses and Elijah. 31Appearing in glory, they were speaking of Yeshua’s departure, which was about to take place in Jerusalem. Now Peter and those with him were overcome with sleep. But when they awakened, they saw Yeshua’s glory and the two men standing with Him. 33And as they were leaving Yeshua, Peter said to Him, “Master, it’s good for us to be here. Let’s make three sukkot: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he was saying. 34While he was yet saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 3232. and when they were awake--so, certainly, the most commentators: but if we translate literally, it should be "but having kept awake" [Meyer, Alford]. It was night, and the Lord seems to have spent the whole night on the mountain (Lu 9:37). saw his glory, &c.--The emphasis…Read the comment
