Context of Isaiah 60:11
9Surely the islands will hope in Me, with the ships of Tarshish in the lead, to bring your sons from afar, their silver and gold with them, for the Name of Adonai your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you. 10Foreigners will build up your walls, and their kings will minister to you. For in My fury I struck you, but in My favor I will show you mercy. Your gates will be open continually. They will not be shut day or night, so that men may bring to you the wealth of the nations, with their kings led in procession. 12For the nation and the kingdom which will not serve you will perish— those nations will be utterly ruined. 13The glory of Lebanon will come to you —cypress, elm and pine together— to beautify the place of My Sanctuary. I will give to the place of My feet glory.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11Therefore thy gates shall be open continually - The main idea here is, probably, that the accession from the pagan world, and the consequent influx of converts, would be so great, that there would be a necessity that the gates should never be closed. It is possible, also, that the prophet meant to describe that time as a period of security and peace. The gates of cities were closed in time of war, and at night, to guard them from danger. But in those…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-14Verses 9-14 God will be very gracious. We must begin with his promise, thence all mercies take rise. Many shall be brought into the church, even from far countries. Christ is always ready to receive all who come to him; and the gate of mercy is always open, night and day. All that are about the church shall be made serviceable to it. But those who will not be subject to Christ's golden sceptre, to his word and Spirit, who will not be kept in by the laws…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11There are two likely reasons why the gates remain open at night (see also Revelation 21:25): A lot of people will enter the city (Isaiah 60:8–10), so the gates must stay open. The citizens of Zion will not fear enemies because the Lord protects them (Isaiah 60:18); the remaining nations will serve the Lord and his people (60:9, 12).Read the comment
