Context of Daniel 12:7
5Then I, Daniel, looked and behold, two others stood there, one on this bank of the river and the one on the other bank of the river. 6One said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long until the end of the wondrous things?” Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised both his right and left hands toward heaven and swore an oath by Him who lives forever, saying, “It is for a time, times, and a half. Then when the breaking of the power of the holy people comes to an end, all these things will be finished.” 8Now I heard, but I did not understand. So I said, ‘My Lord, what will be the outcome of these things?’ 9Then he said: “Go your way, Daniel. For the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end.

Commentaries on Daniel 12:7
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 7Which was upon the waters - By this description, he was standing on the water. This is very similar to the description of the angel, Revelation 10:5, Revelation 10:6, and in the seventh verse there seems to be a reference to this prophecy "a time, times, and a half." See the note on Daniel 7:25; (note).Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 7And I heard the man - That is, he replied to the question at once, and in a most solemn manner, as if he were communicating a great and momentous truth respecting the future. When he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven - Toward heaven; as if appealing to heaven for the sincerity and truth of what he was about to utter. The act of swearing or taking an oath was often accompanied with the lifting up of the hand to heaven, usually the…Read the comment

It signifies 1260 prophetic days or years, beginning from the time when the power of the holy people should be scattered. The imposture of Mohammed, and the papal usurpation, began about the same time; and these were a twofold attack upon the…Read the comment
