Context of John 5:33
31If I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is not true. 32There is another that beareth witness concerning me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth concerning me is true. Ye sent to John, and he bore witness to the truth. 34But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye may be saved. 35He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

John was an eminent man; many of the Pharisees believed on him; he was candid, unambitious, sincere, and his evidence was impartial. On this Jesus might have rested the proof that he was the Messiah, but he was willing, also, to adduce evidence of a higher order.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-38Verses 30-38 Our Lord returns to his declaration of the entire agreement between the Father and the Son, and declared himself the Son of God. The voice of God, accompanied by the power of the Holy Ghost, thus made…Read the comment
