Revised Version 1895
Jonah 1:1-6
1NowH1961 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 unto JonahH3124 the sonH1121 of AmittaiH573, sayingH559,
2AriseH6965, goH5927 to NinevehH5210, that greatH1419 cityH5892, and cryH7121 againstH5921 it; for their wickednessH7451 is comeH5927 upH5927 beforeH6440 meH413.
3But JonahH3124 roseH6965 upH6965 to fleeH1272 unto TarshishH8659 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068; and he wentH935 downH3381 to JoppaH3305, and foundH4672 a shipH591 goingH935 to TarshishH8659: soH5414 he paidH5414 the fareH7939 thereof, and wentH935 downH3381 intoH935 it, to goH935 with them unto TarshishH8659 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068.
4But the LORDH3068 sent outH413 a greatH1419 windH7307 intoH413 the seaH3220, and there was a mightyH1419 tempestH5591 in the seaH3220, soH1961 that the shipH591 was like to be brokenH7665.
5Then the mariners were afraidH3372, and criedH2199 everyH376 manH376 unto his godH430; and they castH2904 forth the wares that were in the shipH591 intoH413 the seaH3220, to lightenH7043 it unto them. But JonahH3124 was goneH3381 downH3381 intoH413 the innermostH3411 partsH3411 of the shipH591; and he layH7901, and was fast asleep.
6SoH7121 the shipmaster cameH7126 to him, and saidH559 unto him, WhatH4100 meanest thou, O sleeper? ariseH6965, callH7121 uponH7121 thy GodH430, ifH194 soH7121 be that GodH430 will thinkH559 uponH7121 usH413, that we perishH6 notH3808.
