Context of Amos 7:17
15And Yhwh took me as I followed the flock, And Yhwh said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel. 16Now therefore hear thou the word of Yhwh: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac. Therefore thus saith Yhwh; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 17Thy wife shall be a harlot - As this was the word of the Lord, so it was fulfilled; but as we have no farther account of this idolatrous priest, so we cannot tell in what circumstances these threatenings were executed. His wife was to be a public prostitute; she was probably such already privately in the temple, as the wife of an idolatrous priest. His sons and daughters were to fall by the sword. Their inheritance was to be taken by strangers. And…Read the comment

But those who have a warrant from God, like Amos, ought not to fear the face…Read the comment
