Context of Amos 7:17
15Then the Lord took me from tending flocks and gave me this commission, ‘Go! Prophesy to my people Israel!’ 16So now listen to the Lord’s message! You say, ‘Don’t prophesy against Israel! Don’t preach against the family of Isaac!’ “Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the streets and your sons and daughters will die violently. Your land will be given to others and you will die in a foreign land. Israel will certainly be carried into exile away from its land.’”

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 17Thy wife shall be a harlot - As this was the word of the Lord, so it was fulfilled; but as we have no farther account of this idolatrous priest, so we cannot tell in what circumstances these threatenings were executed. His wife was to be a public prostitute; she was probably such already privately in the temple, as the wife of an idolatrous priest. His sons and daughters were to fall by the sword. Their inheritance was to be taken by strangers. And…Read the comment
