Context of 2 Samuel 6:16
14And David danced before Yhwh with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. 15So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of Yhwh with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of Yhwh came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before Yhwh; and she despised him in her heart. 17And they brought in the ark of Yhwh, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yhwh. 18And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yhwh of Armies.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-19Verses 12-19 It became evident, that happy was the man who had the ark near him. Christ is indeed a Stone of stumbling, and a Rock of offence, to those that are disobedient; but to those that believe, he is a Corner-stone, elect, precious, 1Pe 2:6-8. Let us be religious. Is the ark a blessing to others' houses? We may have it, and the blessing of it, without fetching it away from our neighbours. David, at first setting out, offered sacrifices to God. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 16Michal is identified as the daughter of Saul three times in this chapter (2 Samuel 6:16, 20, 23). By repeatedly naming her father, the text highlights the tension in her identity. Was Michal more David’s wife, or was she still Saul’s daughter? This tension also raises questions about David’s motives. When David brought Michal back to him earlier (2 Samuel 3:13), did he do so because he loved her, or because she strengthened his political position?…Read the comment
