Context of 2 Samuel 6:16
14Meanwhile, David was dancing before Adonai with all his might while he was wearing a linen ephod. 15So David and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of Adonai with shouting and with the sound of the shofar. But as the ark of Adonai entered the city of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before Adonai, so she despised him in her heart. 17They brought in the ark of Adonai and set it in its place in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before Adonai. 18When David had finished offering the burnt offering and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the Name of Adonai-Tzva’ot.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-19Verses 12-19 It became evident, that happy was the man who had the ark near him. Christ is indeed a Stone of stumbling, and a Rock of offence, to those that are disobedient; but to those that believe, he is a Corner-stone, elect, precious, 1Pe 2:6-8. Let us be religious. Is the ark a blessing to others' houses? We may have it, and the blessing of it, without fetching it away from our neighbours. David, at first setting out, offered sacrifices to God. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 16Michal is identified as the daughter of Saul three times in this chapter (2 Samuel 6:16, 20, 23). By repeatedly naming her father, the text highlights the tension in her identity. Was Michal more David’s wife, or was she still Saul’s daughter? This tension also raises questions about David’s motives. When David brought Michal back to him earlier (2 Samuel 3:13), did he do so because he loved her, or because she strengthened his political position?…Read the comment
