Context of Ezekiel 7:14
12Yes, the time has come; the day is here! Buyers should not rejoice over bargains, nor sellers grieve over losses, for all of them will fall under my terrible anger. 13Even if the merchants survive, they will never return to their business. For what God has said applies to everyone— it will not be changed! Not one person whose life is twisted by sin will ever recover. “The trumpet calls Israel’s army to mobilize, but no one listens, for my fury is against them all. 15There is war outside the city and disease and famine within. Those outside the city walls will be killed by enemy swords. Those inside the city will die of famine and disease. 16The survivors who escape to the mountains will moan like doves, weeping for their sins.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14When Israel sounded the trumpet in holy war (a battle fought in the name of the Lord), something different would happen. In the past, the troops would gather quickly. The enemy would become afraid and confused (see Numbers 10:9; Joshua 6:4–20; Judges 6:34; 7:16–22; Nehemiah 4:18–20). But now, when the trumpet sounded, the soldiers would not rally. The enemy would not be terrified. The old victories would not be repeated.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1414. They have blown the trumpet--rather, "Blow the trumpet," or, "Let them blow the trumpet" to collect soldiers as they will, "to make all ready" for encountering the foe, it will be of no avail; none will have the courage to go to the battle (compare Jr 6:1), [Calvin].Read the comment
