Context of Ezra 3:2
1And when the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem. Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brethren, arose and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. 3Though fear had come upon them because of the people of those countries, they set the altar on its bases; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the Lord, both the morning and evening burnt offerings. 4They also kept the Feast of Tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings in the number required by ordinance for each day.

Zerubbabel was really the son of Pedaiah, Shealtiel‘s (or Salathiel‘s) younger brother. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2Jeshua (Haggai 1:1; Zechariah 3:1) was the high priest (Nehemiah 12:1). However, Ezra did not use this title (Ezra 2:2; 3:2; 4:3; 5:2), which suggests the title was given after the temple was completed (6:15). Zerubbabel served as the governor of Judah, appointed by Persia (Haggai 1:1), likely after Sheshbazzar died (see study note on Ezra 1:8). He was the grandson of King Jehoiachin of Judah (1 Chronicles 3:17).Read the comment
