Context of Exodus 36:8
6So Moses gave a commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.” And the people were restrained from bringing, 7for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done—indeed too much. Then all the gifted artisans among them who worked on the tabernacle made ten curtains woven of fine linen, and of blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim they made them. 9The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the curtains were all the same size. 10And he coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled to one another.

Commentaries on Exodus 36:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Cherubims of cunning work - See on Exodus 25:18; (note). Probably the word means no more than figures of any kind wrought in the diaper fashion in the loom, or by the needle in embroidery, or by the chisel or graving tool in wood, stone, or metal; see Clarke on Exodus 25:18; (note). This meaning Houbigant and other excellent critics contend for. In some places the word seems to be restricted to express a particular figure then well known; but in many…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-38Much of the report about building the Tent of Meeting repeats what 25:1–31:18 said. There is a change from the imperative mood to the indicative, and there are certain changes in the order. This repetition emphasizes that the work was done exactly as God commanded (see 40:16). The people had tried to secure God's presence their own way with the gold calf, which led to disaster. Now, by following God's way, they received blessings (40:34–38).Read the comment

And what was the mainspring of their arduous and untiring…Read the comment
