Context of Exodus 36:8
6Then Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed through the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the heave-offering of the sanctuary! So the people were restrained from bringing; 7for the work they had was sufficient for all the work to do it, and it was too much. And every wise-hearted man among those that wrought the work of the tabernacle made ten curtains of twined byssus, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: [with] cherubim of artistic work did he make them. 9The length of one curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the breadth of one curtain four cubits — one measure for all the curtains. 10And he coupled five of the curtains one to another, and [the other] five curtains coupled he one to another.

Commentaries on Exodus 36:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Cherubims of cunning work - See on Exodus 25:18; (note). Probably the word means no more than figures of any kind wrought in the diaper fashion in the loom, or by the needle in embroidery, or by the chisel or graving tool in wood, stone, or metal; see Clarke on Exodus 25:18; (note). This meaning Houbigant and other excellent critics contend for. In some places the word seems to be restricted to express a particular figure then well known; but in many…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-38Much of the report about building the Tent of Meeting repeats what 25:1–31:18 said. There is a change from the imperative mood to the indicative, and there are certain changes in the order. This repetition emphasizes that the work was done exactly as God commanded (see 40:16). The people had tried to secure God's presence their own way with the gold calf, which led to disaster. Now, by following God's way, they received blessings (40:34–38).Read the comment

And what was the mainspring of their arduous and untiring…Read the comment
