Context of Psalms 71:2
1In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. 3Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. 4Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Deliver me in thy righteousness - See the notes at Psalm 31:1. The first three verses of this psalm seem in fact to have been taken, with slight variations, from the first three verses of Psalm 31:2, this is, “Bow down thine ear to me.” The idea is the same. See the notes at that place. Compare the notes at Psalm 17:6. And save me - In Psalm 31:2, this is, “Deliver me speedily.”Read the comment
