Context of Zechariah 4:3
1The angelic messenger who had been speaking with me then returned and woke me, as a person is wakened from sleep. 2He asked me, “What do you see?” I replied, “I see a menorah of pure gold with a receptacle at the top and seven lamps, with fourteen pipes going to the lamps. There are also two olive trees beside it, one on the right of the receptacle and the other on the left.” 4Then I asked the messenger who spoke with me, “What are these, sir?” 5He replied, “Don’t you know what these are?” So I responded, “No, sir.”

Commentaries on Zechariah 4:3
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2-3gold lampstand: The golden menorah in the Tabernacle was first described in Exodus 25:31. A similar lampstand was later placed in the new temple. It served as a symbol of God’s purity and holiness and of the light that comes from his revelation. The two olive trees represent the roles of priest and king in Israel. They symbolize Jeshua and Zerubbabel. The golden oil represents God's Holy Spirit (see also Zechariah 4:12–14).Read the comment
