Context of Mark 13:16
14“But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. 15The one on the roof must not come down or go inside to take anything out of his house. The one in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 17Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days! 18Pray that it may not be in winter.

Here we have a prediction of that ruin which came upon them within less than forty years after this. Such destruction and desolation, that the like cannot be found in any history. Promises of power to persevere, and cautions against falling away, well agree with each other. But the more we consider these things, the more we shall see…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 15-16A person relaxing on the roof of their Judean home should not even pack after seeing this sign, but come down and flee. Likewise, a person out in the field should not return home to retrieve his cloak. Believers were to flee from the approaching Roman army as soon as they saw the sign of 13:14. Their movement was usually cautious, methodical (careful and step-by-step), and relentless (steady and not stopping). But Jesus warned people not to wait and see…Read the comment
