Context of Isaiah 6:8
6But then one of the seraphs flew toward me. In his hand was a hot coal he had taken from the altar with tongs. 7He touched my mouth with it and said, “Look, this coal has touched your lips. Your evil is removed; your sin is forgiven.” I heard the voice of the sovereign master say, “Whom will I send? Who will go on our behalf?” I answered, “Here I am, send me!” 9He said, “Go and tell these people: ‘Listen continually, but don’t understand! Look continually, but don’t perceive!’ 10Make the hearts of these people calloused; make their ears deaf and their eyes blind! Otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, their hearts might understand and they might repent and be healed.”

Commentaries on Isaiah 6:8
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8The voice of the Lord - Hebrew: “The voice of Yahweh.” He had before been addressed by one of the seraphim. Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? - The change of number here, from the singular to the plural, is very remarkable. Jerome, on this place, says that it indicates the sacrament‘ of the Trinity. The Septuagint renders it, whom shall I send, and who will go to this people?‘ The Chaldee, whom shall I send to prophesy, and who will go to teach?‘…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8Who will go for Us?: The Lord spoke in the presence of his angels. The Bible sometimes describes this gathering as a heavenly council (a group of heavenly beings who stand before God; see also 1 Kings 22:19–22; Jeremiah 23:18, 22). Here am I: Isaiah answered quickly and willingly. God had just forgiven and cleansed him from sin. Because of this grace (God’s undeserved kindness), Isaiah was ready to serve. He committed himself to a lifetime of ministry…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. I ... us--The change of number indicates the Trinity (compare Ge 1:26; 11:7). Though not a sure argument for the doctrine, for the plural may indicate merely majesty, it accords with that truth proved elsewhere. Whom ... who--implying that few would be willing to bear the self-denial which the delivering of such an unwelcome message to the Jews would require on the part of the messenger (compare 1Ch 29:5). Here am I--prompt zeal, now that he has been…Read the comment
